A project in my retirement
Now I
am retired I have decided I should keep my old website for a project
in my retirement...
Although I actually retired several years ago, Barbara and I have
remained heavily involved in our cat sanctuary; despite our winding it
down it still takes a great deal of our time.

There are two areas of interest I am pursuing:
a return to some attempts at art work. I used to do a little drawing
and painting many years ago, but have neglected that for several
decades due to other commitments.
Secondly, I am looking at the street where I live -
Castle
Street - particularly the buildings.
I have always appreciated the wide variety of buildings in this
street, which range from humble cottages to impressive houses.

I am
curious as to how Castle Street became what it is today, not just the
present individual buildings, but also how the whole street may have
been established and developed over centuries to become what it is
today.
There are photographs going back 100 years or more, and a few old
maps, so we have some evidence of what Castle Street looked like in
the relatively recent past. But imagine if we were to go back 250, 500
or even 1,000 years or more, what might we see? Are there any clues we
can find that might begin to form a picture of how the street has
evolved into what is here today?

If anyone wants to see how far I have got
start here with an
introduction...
